Magazines in Your Area?

One of the most frustrating things is not having access to some of the Japanese/Chinese/Korean magazines. Many magazines also don’t provide an easy way to buy issues online. I know some people are lucky enough to have contacts in those countries so they can get magazines like Maxim Korea (*cough* Cutkillavince), but most of us aren’t that fortunate :)

Anyway, I was wondering what magazines are available in your area? Also, which magazines you wished were available in your area?

For me, Toronto, Canada has FHM Taiwan (I should really pickup a copy) and most Japanese girl fashion magazines (PINKY when it used to exist). I really wish there was Maxim Korea…I want that issue with Kim Ha Yul as a maid so badly!

I wonder if FHM Taiwan is like Maxim in North America…a handful of nice photos and a whole lot of editorials I don’t care about

    • Steve says:

Yes, PMall upstairs in the Heritage area has a magazine shop with a bunch of magazines

      • Vey says:

You know if pmall has any Japanese mags? I usually only see chinese/taiwanese ones.

I’ve been looking everywhere online for Weekly Playboy but nothing is affordable (paying for weekly shipping and all…).

  2. Jericho says:

I live in Seoul. So… all the Korean ones.

  3. MaJieMao says:

Well the Maxims and FHM i used to get in mainland China were about the same as the USA versions, a few nice pics and lots of other crap.

  4. Inuk says:

I’m up in Nunavut. Northern Canada, I’m Inuit, aka Eskimo.

so all I really get is the North American Maxim and Stuff.

  5. Holy Toast says:

Michigan, USA. So probably just a bunch of crap I’m not interested in…. :( I’ve never seen any magazines from other countries in my area at all.

I can get most of the Japanese magazines at Kinokuniya in Japantown in San Francisco. And anything they don’t have, you can special order. The only bad thing is the mark up (i.e. 1200円 cover price on a mag will cost you $21.00!).

Oh yeah, I live here in L.A, and Little Tokyo has two different Mall style stores and Manga book stores that are loaded with mags, lots of them sealed :D

I’m living in a town in Holland were I do not have acces to any Asian magazines at all, but in big cities like Rotterdam and Amsterdam there are magazines from Hong Kong and China, but like 8 to 10 euro -..-

I live in a small town in England and we don’t have any asian magazines, there’s a shop in London called the Japan Centre and they sell all sorts from Bombtv to high street fashion magazines.

  9. Tam says:

Sydney, Australia. We also have a Kinokuniya bookstore here and they sell all kinds of Japanese magazines. I’ve seen some Japanese fashion mags like ViVi and S-Cawai – both filled with cute jap models. No Maxim Korea though =(

  10. kurowah says:

im studying abroad in japan. so i can get my hands on all the japanese mags =]

  11. Matt says:

I can get anything in Japan, cos I’m …. in Japan.

  12. 老外 says:

Anything in mainland China, where I currently live. But magazines?–meh. The best stuff is all online.

I also want to throw a shout-out to the poster from Nunavut. Although I’m Canadian myself, I wasn’t sure anyone actually lived in Nunavut until I saw your post.

I’m in Hanoi, Vietnam. So that means no FHM Maxim blah blah…actually, i could order them and ship to Vietnam, but their price would rock up a lot

  14. DJ says:

    NYC here.

Chinatown and Flushing has all the Chinese magazines.

Kinokuniya has all the Japanese ones.

Koryo Books – has Korean ones but I dunno if I’ve seen the Maxims there. lol

I live in L.A, so I got Korea Town for Maxim, Little Tokyo for Japan’s, and china town for the rest :D …they’re pretty expensive though…
I remember when Shu Qi (Hsu Chi or Lin Li-Hui) was featured in Maxim Korea in early 2000′s, She’s so hot, I was like “There’s Maxims in Korea?”

  16. Not so much in my area, but I receive Korean magazines from Korea frequently, so that’s fine ;)

If a monk from Vatican hide a fashion magazine Vatican would have one more fashion magazine than my country.

  18. lir says:

Japanese ones and Chinese ones are all available here in Australia (if you know where to look). Maxim Korea not so much… but it isn’t REALLY worth it i think (too many boring articles) so it doesn’t bother me.

  19. PFULMTL says:

I can get any Chinese FHM, GQ, fashion mags and maybe more in the bookstore here, but I havent ever bought any…since I cant read them.

  20. oobaka says:

Living on the pimple on the ass end of Canada, we don’t get any of the magazines the rest of the world takes for granted.

  21. CIJ says:

Am fae Scotland so yeah plenty of Korean Maxim magazines here.

  22. Piyokochan says:

I’m in the outskirts of Toronto and there are lots of magazines from Foody mart (chinese grocery store chain). Of course, they’re all chinese so…not much variety there =\

Definitely try J-town at 404 and steeles (website here: http://www.jtown.ca/NewStuff/index-e.htm), it looks like they’ve got a japanese bookstore there for all your japanese magazine needs! I’m unsure of the costs though as I’ve actually never been there.

  23. zz says:

Only US and Philippine editions of fhm and maxim here, nothing from other Asian countries
